Award Category Criteria

Planner of the Year Award
This award recognizes planners who have demonstrated commitment and actively support MPI Oregon, the meetings industry, and their community.

Qualifications: Must be an active member in good standing (no student or subscriber members) for two years or more, and cannot have received this award in the last two years. Regular attendance (association manager will verify) to MPI Oregon meetings is a plus, but not required, so as not to penalize members who live a distance from the meeting locations.

Candidate will be evaluated by:

  • Contributions to MPI Oregon including chapter and committee participation, meeting attendance, and office/positions held overall, from this past year as well as contributions overall from years of membership
  • Professional/career advancement, including candidate's industry work history, certifications, and continuing professional education
  • Services provided to the community and the industry
  • Published written works and/or speaking engagements
  • Professional recognition in the industry and in civic organizations

Supplier of the Year Award
This award recognizes suppliers who have demonstrated commitment and actively support MPI Oregon, the meetings industry, and their community.

Qualifications: Must be an active member in good standing (no student or subscriber members) for two years or more, and cannot have received this award in the last two years. Regular attendance (association manager will verify) to MPI Oregon meetings is a plus, but not required, so as not to penalize members who live a distance from the meeting locations.

Mentor of the Year Award
This award recognizes planners and suppliers who display the unique ability to lead, guide and teach others with enthusiasm. This person is someone who you can turn to for advice and support.

Qualifications: Member in good standing. Student and subscriber members are eligible.

  • Actively involved in MPI Oregon and the community
  • Makes every effort to mentor people, and is someone whom members can turn to for advice and support
  • Demonstrates and maintains exemplary communication between existing and new members
  • Upholds the standard of the organization
  • Professional recognition in the industry and in civic organizations

Torchlight Award
This award recognizes new members who have demonstrated outstanding commitment and actively support MPI Oregon.

Qualifications: Member in good standing for 36 months or more (collectively) and cannot have received this award in the last two years. Student and subscriber members are eligible. Regular attendance (association manager will verify) to MPI Oregon meetings is a plus, but not required, so as not to penalize members who live a distance from the meeting locations.

  • Actively involved in one or more MPI Oregon committees
  • Exemplifies a strong commitment to MPI Oregon by their actions
  • Demonstrates and maintains exemplary communication between existing and new members
  • Upholds the standard of the organization

Rising Star Award
This award recognizes new members who have demonstrated outstanding commitment and actively support MPI Oregon.

Qualifications: Member in good standing for less than 36 months and cannot have received this award previously.

Student and subscriber members are eligible. Regular attendance (association manager will verify) to MPI Oregon meetings is a plus, but not required, so as not to penalize members who live a distance from the meeting locations.

  • Actively involved in one or more MPI Oregon committees
  • Exemplifies a strong commitment to MPI Oregon by their actions
  • Demonstrates and maintains exemplary communication between existing and new members
  • Upholds the standard of the organization

Given at the discretion of the current president to an outstanding individual in the chapter who has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the organization.

Torchlight Award Winner:
Christina Devlin, CMM, AGC Oregon-Columbia Chapter
Bestowed to a chapter member who has been a part of the organization more than 3 years and has shown a very high level of engagement, volunteering, and commitment to moving the chapter goals forward.

Rising Star Award Winner:
Rindi Zavodsky, Travel Portland
Presented to a chapter member or members who have been a part of the organization less than 3 years and shown a very high level of engagement, volunteering, and commitment fulfilling chapter goals.

Mentor of the Year Award Winner:
Stephanie Kennedy, Total Event Connection
Awarded to a chapter member who has displayed the unique ability to lead, guide, and teach others with enthusiasm, and is frequently a person that fellow chapter members can turn to for advice and support.

Planner of the Year Award Winner:
Karen Waggoner, CMP, CMM, Triumph Expo & Events Inc.
Given to a meeting planner in recognition for their outstanding association contributions, leadership and professionalism, and is a peer-recognized award.

Supplier of the Year Award Winner:
Nichole Cooper, CMP, The Alllison Inn & Spa
Awarded to a meetings industry supplier (hotel, transportation, audio/visual, etc.) in recognition for their outstanding association contributions, leadership and professionalism, and is a peer-recognized award.

Silver Platter Award Winner:
Oregon Convention Center
Presented to the meeting facility where a monthly program was held that scored the highest on post-event evaluations, based on the following criteria: catering service, presentation, menu selection, food quality, décor creativity, program enhancement, and entertainment.
